An interactive sensory dance experience
Inspired by the River Stour, And The River Always Flows is an interactive sensory dance experience created with people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) at its heart, while welcoming people of all abilities.
The piece invites audiences into a gentle, immersive environment inspired by the movement and changing qualities of the river. Dance, sound, light, projected film, texture and flowing sensory materials come together to create a space that can be experienced in many different ways.
There is no expectation to sit still, follow instructions or participate in a particular way. Audiences are welcome to watch, move, interact with the performers and sensory materials, or simply spend time within the environment. The work is designed to allow each person to experience dance in a way that feels meaningful to them.

The experience has been created with people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) at its heart, but people of all abilities are welcome.
Accessibility:
The Garden Room is wheelchair accessible and there is an accessible toilet close by. Limited parking is available outside the Tea Room. This area can also be used for accessible drop-off and collection, including minibuses, with step-free access a short distance to the Garden Room.

And The River Always Flows has been commissioned through the Culture Catalyst Micro-Commission programme as part of Wimborne Town of Culture 2026.
The commission has provided the opportunity to create a new interactive sensory dance experience for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), inspired by the River Stour and exploring movement through light, sound, projection, texture and sensory materials.
The work will be presented in Wimborne as part of the town’s 2026 cultural programme.
Supported through a Culture Catalyst Micro-Commission as part of Wimborne Town of Culture 2026.
Dorset Town of Culture is an initiative by the Arts Development Company, with funding from Dorset Council and 2026 is supported by matched funding from Wimborne Minster Town Council, with headline sponsors Wimborne Minster BID and Canford School.
